When is the best time to request to increase the credit limit form credit card company?

i recently recieved a card with the credit limit of $7000. how long should i wait before i request them to increase the limit? and how much do they increase anyways? if anyone been through through this situation before, can you please explain? thank you.|||Generally, if you have made all your payments on time for a minimum of 6 months, you can ask for an increase, especially if you keep your balance low. With a 7K credit line, you can expect $500-1000.

Just a word of caution: Don't ever use all that credit unless it is an emergency. Not a good idea to run it up to even half. Use over half your available credit and it is a negative on your credit report. You can be in debt for a very long time, especially if you only make minimum payments. Try 40 years to pay off a 7K balance with minimum payments! Best way to build your credit is to make a monthly purchase and then pay it off completely every month.

Sorry to diverge from your original question, but I would hate to see you make a very common and quite serious financial mistake.
