I have an excellent credit score, I make about $35,000 a year, and my current limit on my card is $4,000. I would like to increase it to accommodate future travel plans (the plans aren't really made yet, just know it would be convenient to have more credit available). Is there a guideline to knowing how much credit is the "right" amount for your income?|||When you call ur bank to request an increase they have systems in place that will asses ur history on that account to determine the amount to give you, when you call you should just have to ask for an increase and they would tell you the amount available to you. In the current egomaniac climate though banks are being less likely to give high limits on cards, and only your income in taken into account. Joint incomes will Only ever be considered for joint accounts|||How much more do you think you might need? I would ask for $10K and see what they will approve.
Most credit card companies are lowering limits, not increasing. So don't be surprised if you don't get much of an increase. You may want to get another credit card with a different bank, as a back up.
